During the First Age of Aabahran, hordes of undead and demonic beasts roamed the lands unchecked, destroying all that was pure and natural as they went. To stem their inexorable march, the Earth Mother granted special and unique powers to those amongst her followers whom she most loved. Amongst her warriors, Gaia selected four who would become the first werefolk. Amongst her priests, she selected only two who would learn the art of Earthsinging. Grimulfr, a powerful Earth Shaman of the Northern lands was one of those who was blessed. Under the tutelage of the Earth Mother herself, he was taught the ancient rites and the forgotten songs that would allow him to become one of Gaia's greatest mortal champions. It is said that the sound of his flute caused entire legions of undead to fall into slumbers from which they would never awake, and that he carried out the rites to re-grow entire groves from nought but ash. Grimulfr was an odd-looking and eccentric fellow, hardly the image of a great hero. But hero he was, and when he was imbued with Gaia's blessing, his strength and wrath were terrible indeed. By the time the armies of evil had been destroyed, Grimulfr was nearing the end of his long life. In gratitude for his devotion, the Earth Mother granted him immortality, and changed his form into a giant fir tree; so he could be one with Her until he was called from his slumber once more.
