Erana is a human woman with supernatual qualities. She is commonly regarded as a demigod and it is rumored that she has at least one godly ancestor. Erana was born into the Mundea family, a displaced Miruvhorian house of some prominence in Rheydin. The details of her lineage is a closely guarded secret of House Mundea. It is known that she is effectively immortal, but it is not clear if this because of birth or later intervention. She does not have the awesome destructive or omniscent abilities of other deities which explains her position as a demigod.

From birth, Erana was destined to be a priestess. House Mundea gave her over as a toddler to one of the family shrines. However, Erana quickly displayed a wonderous, uncontainable talent for both communion and casting. Such a combination of talent is exceedingly rare and her overjoyed family scrambled to quickly reclaim the fledgling girl. To their amazement, she soon showed a third talent in psionics.

Her education was spared no expense and the Mundea family paid very heavily into Erana's development. This venture would return to pay unprecedented benefits to House Mundea in the future. Initially, her family had hoped for her to enter the Savant Tower or Heraldric Library and rise to fame through the force of her talent, but it quickly became apparant the woman's path lay in another direction.

Erana's multiple talents and growing name as a genius artificer had earned her some fame in the higher circles of the cities. When she was still a teenager, the turning point of her life arrived. She was commissioned to forge a mighty artifact for the Tribunal and Saffra herself. This artifact was to be a symbol of the Empire and to help legitimatize its position among the people. She toiled on that project with the fervor that only an idealistic youth could manage. She strove to pour her very essence into it. She succeeded.

When Saffra came to review and claim the completed work for the Empire, the artifact had a surprising effect. It radiated so much refinement and majesty and demanded so much respect and legitimacy that even Saffra immediately thought the bearer to be the most capable ruler she had ever encountered. The bearer was the creator, Erana. Saffra, having found the perfect one to lead her empire and finally break her cursed duty, immediately issued an edict proclaiming the young Erana as the heir apparent of all the Tribunal empire, much to the chagrin of the other royal houses. House Mundea took upon the name as the Imperial house and in surprisingly short order, Erana was catapulted to the supreme position of Imperatrix of the empire.
